Lindsay took an Honours degree in printed textiles at Glasgow School of Art, before going on to take up a place at the Royal College of Art in London to gain her MA. Much of her work is inspired by the birds, animals and plants of the British Isles, hares and hens are her particular favourites. The colours and textural details of everyday creatures, such as the dragonfly or bee, stimulate her imagination, leading to the intricate and decorative paintings for which she is best known.
